Petra James wanted to be an archaeologist when she grew up. Instead, she became a book editor. Petra was born in a small town in the South Island of New Zealand, and after travelling and living in Europe, she settled in Sydney. After writing several non-fiction titles for children, and some fiction readers for non-native speakers of English, she began writing stories about a nine-year-old girl who wanted to be a poet when she grew up, named Harriet Bright.
Petra is currently the Children’s Publisher at Pan Macmillan. Her latest middle-grade novels are Hapless Hero Henrie and The Most Ungrateful Girl in the World. The sequel to Hapless Hero Henry is due mid-2020.
