Susanne Gervay is recognised for her books on social justice issues, from bullying to disability, and has been involved in a fact finding mission on climate change. Susanne’s award winning youth literature is endorsed by Cancer Council, The Alannah & Madeline Foundation and many others. I Am Jack is a rite-of-passage children’s book on school bullying adapted into an acclaimed play by Monkey Baa Theatre. Ships in the Field, Always Jack and Butterflies (YA) are significant in recognising our immigrant world. She has written both novels and picture books for children, novels for young adults, a number of short stories, and has contributed to anthologies. Susanne has spoken in conferences around the world, from the London IBBY Conference, to children at the Beijing Literary Festival, to Kiribati, around Australia, and more.
Susanne is an ambassador for Room to Read, and she is head of the Society of Children’s Writers & Illustrators, Australia and New Zealand. Susanne is an ambassador for the National Year of Reading, and she has been awarded an Order of Australia for children’s literature.
